About the role: The MDM & Data Governance Manager is the operational and strategic lead for our data-governance program and enterprise MDM hub, ensuring a single, trusted source of truth for patients, providers, facilities, and payors. Partnering with clinical, revenue-cycle, and analytics leaders, you will translate governance policy into scalable processes, drive MDM roadmap execution, and mentor a small team of data stewards and solution engineers.
The Manager, Data Governance reports to the Vice President, Data Governance
Essential Functions:
- Program Leadership & Strategy - Define and iterate the enterprise data-governance framework (policies, standards, operating model).
- Maintain the MDM and data-quality roadmap aligned to organizational OKRs and regulatory needs.
- Team Management - Lead 4–6 FTEs covering data stewardship, quality engineering, and MDM configuration; foster a culture of ownership and continuous improvement.
- Governance Operations - Organize the Data-Domain Councils; coordinate policy approvals, issue triage, and change-control.
- Oversee metadata curation, data-quality scorecards, lineage, and business-glossary adoption (DCAM / DAMA).
- Solution Oversight & Delivery – Approval of conceptual, logical, and physical designs for new entities and match/merge schemas.
- Guide CI/CD pipeline design, release management, and performance tuning in cloud & on-prem hubs.
- Risk, Compliance & Evangelism - Ensure HIPAA/HITRUST compliance, incident response, and audit readiness.
- Establish and maintain comprehensive data governance policies, procedures, and standards aligned with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
- Define data ownership and stewardship roles, assigning clear accountability for data quality and compliance.
- Drive data-literacy campaigns and executive dashboards that demonstrate governance ROI.
- Establish and maintain a comprehensive data governance program and integrate it into organizational processes from strategic planning to tactical activities.
- Develop data quality metrics and monitoring processes to identify and address data issues proactively.
- Design and maintain the operational data model, ensuring data consistency and accuracy across different systems and applications.
- Collaborate with data architects and engineers to implement the data model within the organization's data infrastructure.
- Utilize data governance tools and methodologies to support Premise Health data management initiatives.
- Manage data lineage and mapping to track data flow and transformations across systems.
- Educate and train stakeholders on data governance policies, standards, and data quality expectations.
- Collaborate with business units to understand their data needs and align them with data governance principles.
- Facilitate communication and collaboration between technical teams and business users regarding data management practices.
- Conduct data quality assessments and audits to identify areas for improvement.
- Implement data cleansing and remediation processes to address data quality issues.
- Develop and execute data quality improvement initiatives across the organization.
- Participate in roadmap development for technology solutions supporting governance programs
- Measure and report the actual results of the governance strategy to its plan.
- Mentor and coach team members. Opportunities for direct report relationships exist in this role.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s in Information Systems, Computer Science, Health Informatics, or related field (Master’s or MBA a plus)
- 7 + years in data governance, data-quality, or MDM, including 3 + years formal people or project leadership.
- Demonstrated ownership of an enterprise-class MDM implementation preferably in a healthcare setting (patient, provider, customer, or product).
- Familiarity with healthcare data standards (HL7 v2/v3, FHIR R4, ICD-10, CPT, NPI), HIPAA privacy/security, and value-based-care analytics.
- Proven success in coordinating with governance bodies, writing policies, and operationalizing stewardship workflows.
- Leading and mentoring an MDM team and maintaining relationships with Data Owners and Data Stewards.
- At least 3 years of managerial experience
Preferred Experience:
- Preferred Certifications: DAMA CDMP, DCAM, Informatica/Reltio/Profisee, or HITRUST
- Knowledge of emerging trends tools, methodologies and best practices in information technology and security (e.g., data catalogs, metadata management, data quality tools) Microsoft Purview preferred.
- Knowledge of software implementation and project management
- Knowledge of IT risk controls and compliance frameworks (e.g. SOC2, ISO 27001, NIST 800 series, ITIL)
- Hands-on with MDM platforms like Informatica 360, Reltio, IBM InfoSphere, Profisee, Semarchy, etc.
- Functional understanding of deploying data solutions on Azure or AWS; Git, CI/CD (Azure DevOps / Jenkins), containerization basics
- Experience with: SQL; data-modeling (ERwin, PowerDesigner); metadata/catalog (Collibra, Alation, Azure Purview); BI (Qlik, Power BI or Tableau)
- Knowledge of Information Security principles, policies, and practices; web application security; information controls and audit methodology for business systems and data processing environments
- Ability to evaluate governance ideas and requests from multiple sources and articulate a rationale for those that are worth pursuing.
- Influential communicator who translates technical topics into business value for clinicians & executives.
- Proven coach and mentor; committed to developing team skillsets and promoting data-centric culture.
- Organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable balancing strategic vision with hands-on execution.
- Ability to make and defend decisions related to economic trade-offs and prioritization.
- Ability to define and lead governance discovery and definition activities, develop business cases, and design conceptual solutions.
- Ability to document business, market or governance requirements and create functional design specifications.
- Ability to create written, graphic, and summary documents and presentations for internal and external use in communicating governance goals and objectives.
- Ability to understand and effectively communicate business needs that inform how data should be collected, managed, stored, and used and the business impacts that happen because of changes in data or because of not addressing data issues
- In depth knowledge of data management and governance best practices, data modeling, and database/data warehousing concepts
- Deep expertise for data domains (provider groups, practitioners, payers, members, etc.)
- Working knowledge of industry governance frameworks
- Strong working knowledge and application of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint)
- Ability to build consensus and motivate others to action.
- Ability to synthesize data into actionable information.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with executive, business and technical stakeholders using their terminology.

While a number of factors influence salary, our estimated California, Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota, Washington, and New York compensation is $114,000 - $140,000 with eligible bonus opportunity.
