About the role: 

The Data team is seeking a meticulous and detail-oriented QA Data Validation Specialist to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and reliability of our data. You will play a critical role in maintaining high data quality standards by designing, implementing, and executing validation processes. Your work will directly impact the quality of our products, services, and decision-making processes.


Essential Functions:  

  • Develop and execute data validation test plans, test cases, and test scripts based on business requirements and data specifications.
  • Perform various data quality checks, including accuracy, completeness, consistency, conformity, and integrity.
  • Identify, document, and track data anomalies, errors, and inconsistencies through the testing lifecycle.
  • Analyze test results and collaborate with data engineers, developers, and business analysts to troubleshoot and resolve data quality issues. 
  • Design and implement automated data validation scripts using tools such as Python or SQL.
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of data quality standards, processes, and documentation.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure data quality is integrated throughout the data lifecycle.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of data validation processes and methodologies.
  • Assist in the creation of data quality dashboards
  • Potentially participate in user acceptance testing (UAT) to validate data accuracy for end-users.
  • Partner with product managers to validate the product requirements, use cases, feature prioritization, and release scope based on user needs, strategic goals, and implementation feasibility.
  • Define test specifications, user stories, acceptance criteria, test cases, process flows, data mappings, and user-facing product documentation for new features.
  • Conduct user acceptance testing (UAT) for dataset releases.
  • Coordinate across project stakeholders including Engineering, and Product by planning meetings, creating presentations, and delivering status updates.
  • Ensure data product quality by conducting testing, validation, and performance assessments.
  • Understand the policy, technical, and operational aspects of de-identification (HIPAA Safe Harbor, Expert Determination, etc) and data linking.
  • KPIs may include:
  • Reduction in manual data transformation steps through automation
  • Time-to-delivery from data ingestion to availability of analysis-ready datasets
  • Monitor data quality and integrity across all data products, ensuring that they meet business and regulatory standards.
  • Train users on new tools and features, ensuring efficient adoption across the teams.
  • May require other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, a related field, or equivalent practical experience 
  • Master’s degree is a plus
  • 8+ years of experience in data quality assurance, data validation, or a related role.
  • Experience with data validation and testing tools.
  • Experience writing test cases to validate transformations, joins, aggregations, etc.
  • Experience with frameworks like pytest for test automation for data pipeline
  • Experience working with various types of healthcare data (e.g., EHR, claims, sensors, genomics).
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python for test automation preferred.
  • Experience with data visualization tools like Power BI or Tableau preferred.
  • Knowledge of specific industry regulations or data standards relevant to the company preferred.
  • Proven track record of supporting infrastructure or platform products.



Preferred Experience: 

  • Strong SQL skills for querying, validating, and profiling data in Databricks notebooks.
  • Strong understanding of data quality principles and methodologies.
  • Proficiency in writing and executing SQL queries for data analysis and validation.
  • Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and ETL processes.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to interpret data requirements and technical specifications.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare data privacy, tokenization, and data linking concepts, vendors, and best practices.
  • Proficiency in Python, especially for writing test scripts and PySpark code.
  • Understanding of how data is manipulated with Spark DataFrames.
  • Knowledge of data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, QLIK) and reporting solutions.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with a strong attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to interact with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to think like a systems designer—mapping flows across multiple user types, channels, and points in the journey 
  • Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills paired with excellent execution and attention to detail.
